SPECIAL CALL - EXHIBITION

Pray for Ukraine
2022
Acrylic & Mixed Media
This painting shows the sorrow and blood brought on by war. Several holes have been slashed through the canvas and one has been sutured back together with white thread, signifying that only peace can mend the wounds of this war. Brock Chisholm said it best- "No one wins a war. It is true there are degrees of loss, but no one wins.
LYDIA MAHONEY
My self-taught art journey started as a means of stress-relief, spending my time at home painting beautiful places and animals. I have found a lot of peace manipulating colors and textures under my brush and fingers.
Lately, I have felt deeply compelled to paint on the subject of activism and using my hands to bring voice to important issues. I am most drawn towards creating emotional art for LGBTQ, feminist, and other minority groups as well as anti-war efforts. The primary goal is for my art to be thought-evoking for its viewers. I hope my paintings will kick-start some of those hard conversations between individuals in our society and bring us closer to a more positive future.
